You've opened a wishlist and found the perfect item. You click through — and then you wonder: is this actually the best price? The product might be on Amazon, at John Lewis, at ASOS — and the price varies. Most people either check manually across a few tabs, or just pay what they see first.
gift it now does that checking for you, automatically, before you even think to ask.
When an item has a known price, gift it searches Google Shopping and shows you alternative UK retailers — sorted cheapest first — directly on the item. If a cheaper option exists, you'll see exactly how much you could save. You choose where to buy; gift it has no preference.
When you open a wishlist, gift it checks each item against Google Shopping in the background. If the same product is available at another UK retailer for less, a panel appears at the bottom of the item card labelled “spotted for less”.
The panel lists up to five alternatives, sorted by price. The cheapest option shows a savings badge — for example, “saves £8.00” — so you can see at a glance whether the difference is worth switching retailers for. Each result links directly to the retailer's product page. There's no redirect, no affiliate wrapping on comparison links, no middleman.
If no cheaper alternatives are found, the panel doesn't appear at all. The item card looks exactly the same as it always did.
gift it is not a price tracker. It doesn't monitor prices over time, send alerts when something drops, or guarantee that the price you see is the current live price. Results come from Google Shopping and are cached for up to 24 hours — by the time you click through, the retailer may have updated their price.
The comparison is a nudge, not a contract. The copy on every panel says exactly this: “Prices from Google Shopping · may have changed.” Always check the price on the retailer's own page before completing a purchase.
gift it is also not a shop or a marketplace. Every purchase happens at the retailer directly. gift it never handles payment, fulfilment, or returns. The comparison panel exists purely to help gifters save money — not to route purchases through gift it for a cut.
If you're building a list, the price comparison panel is visible from your edit view too — collapsed by default so it doesn't clutter the editing experience, but there if you want to check. This lets you see whether the item you've added is competitively priced, and swap out the source URL if you find a better version of the same product elsewhere.
The price captured when you add an item is the price that appears on the item card — it's not updated in real time. The comparison panel is separate from that, and is always live (within the 24-hour cache window).
Gifting is already a small act of effort — finding the list, choosing something, buying it and getting it delivered. The last thing anyone needs is to discover after the fact that the same item was available for significantly less somewhere else. The price comparison panel removes that friction without requiring the gifter to do anything differently.
It's one of those features that works best when you don't really notice it's there — it shows up when it's useful, stays out of the way when it isn't, and never pretends to be more than it is.
No. The comparison links go directly to the retailer with no affiliate tracking. gift it may earn a commission on the original item link on the list, but comparison links are there purely to help — there's no commercial incentive on where you choose to buy.
No. Results come from Google Shopping and are cached for up to 24 hours. Prices change frequently — always check the retailer's own page before completing a purchase. The panel says this explicitly.
Price comparisons only appear when the item has a known price and at least one cheaper alternative is found. Items added without a price — or where no alternatives exist in the Google Shopping results — show nothing. The item card is identical either way.
No. The list owner sees only that the item has been claimed — not where you bought it, how much you paid, or which link you used. Where you buy is entirely your own business.
